Belts / Hose Inspection
Belts and hoses in your vehicle are particularly susceptible to wear and tear due to factors like heat, vibration, and contamination. This makes regular inspections essential to ensure their optimal functioning. Let’s delve into the various types of belts and hoses found in your car, along with their respective applications.
Accessory Drive Belts
In your car, certain accessories draw power from the engine itself through a system of pulleys and belts, whereas others are electrically powered by the charging system. These accessories include:
- Alternator
- Water Pump for engine cooling
- Power Steering Pump
- Air Conditioning Compressor
- Radiator Cooling Fan
It’s worth noting that many modern vehicles utilize a single serpentine belt to drive these accessories, replacing the need for individual belts.
Hoses
The hoses responsible for conveying fluids in your vehicle are constructed with two layers of rubber, separated by a layer of fabric. Common hose types encompass:
Radiator and Heater Hoses: These hoses facilitate the transportation of coolant to the engine and the heater core.
Fuel Hose: This hose, as the name suggests, carries gasoline from the tank to the engine.
Power Steering Hose: It connects the power steering pump to the steering gear, ensuring proper power steering functionality.
